Integrative Career Counseling is a practical framework for incorporating personal and mental health counseling concepts and techniques into career counseling to facilitate client progress. This model has been presented at numerous workshops and conferences, including the National Career Development Association's annual conference, the Maryland Career Development Association's annual conference, and as in-house training for "Montgomery Works", a workforce development one-stop in Montgomery County, Maryland.

If you have already read about or heard a presentation about Integrative Career Counseling, and are interested in training, then you have come to the right place: the training sessions begin in September 2010.
The training is designed to teach you how to use the ICC model with your specific caseload and provides ample opportunities to address individual problems or issues. The format will be small group, with participants limited to 10.
ICC Training includes:
  | Ten 90-minute group teleseminar sessions; and

|
  | Three individual case consultations, lasting 50 minutes, spaced about a month apart.

|
The group sessions will discuss the ICC model in depth, and individual sessions will allow for the application of the model to your current caseload, so that you get immediate help in applying the model with clients.
What you can expect from the workshop:
This is designed to be a small, intimate group, with plenty of opportunity for questions and discussions. The teleconference bridge I will be using will allow you to "raise your hand" whenever you have a question, and will allow us to break up into pairs or small groups to discuss questions and case studies. So although the weekly sessions will be 90 minutes long, you won't be sitting there, listening to a lecture, trying to stay awake. You'll be working with colleagues, getting new ideas and insights, right from the first session.
I will certainly be giving you a thorough grounding in the ICC model, but because the model is designed to be flexible and adaptable, a large part of our work together will be identifying ways to make the ICC model work for you in your practice or workplace setting. A counselor in a college career center will use this model differently from a counselor in private practice, and a lot of our work will focus on exactly this type of customization.
The workshop will also provide opportunities to address bread and butter business and practice issues, from how best to market a private practice to how to design or modify forms, including the informed consent and client data forms.
We'll get to spend a lot of time talking about the types of clients and cases that are challenging, generating new ways to work with a wide range of client issues.
In our individual sessions, you will get to take the material in whatever direction will be most useful to you. So if the ICC model gets you thinking about starting that private practice you have always dreamed about, we can talk about that. If you are a relatively new counselor, it will give us an opportunity to discuss all the questions that you may be grappling with. And if you are an experienced counselor who revels in case consultation, we can work our way through your most interesting or challenging cases.
I am writing a book on Integrative Career Counseling, and the workshop materials will form the foundation for that book. Each week, you will be emailed the background text as well as case studies and other exercises. Not only will you get an early draft of the book, but you will also have an opportunity to shape the book.
Finally, you become known to me and to colleagues across the country as an Integrative Career Counselor, opening up new sources of referrals.
Dates and Times
The training session will begin in September 2010. Group sessions will be held on Thursday afternoons from 2-3:30 pm EST. The dates of the sessions will be:
September 16, 23 and 30
October 7, 14, 21, 28
November 4 and 18
December 2
Three one-on-one sessions for each participant will be scheduled individually. Sessions will take place during the business day.
Location
The comfort of your home or office! Because this is a phone-based workshop, there are no travel or hotel fees associated with the training. Materials will be emailed to you throughout the workshop.
CEUs
You will earn 18 contact hours from the National Board of Certified Counselors (NBCC) for this workshop. NBCC requires counselors to accrue 20 hours of continuing education contact hours each year, so this workshop will cover a lot of CEU ground for you! If you do want CEUs for this workshop, you will have to complete a brief case study to demonstrate your understanding of the ICC model. This is a requirement of NBCC.
Cost
The cost for the workshop is $1650, due in three payments. The first $550 payment will be required as a deposit when you sign up for the workshop. The second $550 payment will be due October 15th, and the third $550 payment is due November 15th. I accept checks or credit cards.
