My approach to career counseling is a holistic one. I believe that our careers are an integral part of our life, and cannot be addressed in isolation. As our careers need to fit our lives, I ask lots of questions that help me understand your hopes and dreams.

About My Practice
I have been counseling career clients since 1999 and have helped hundreds of clients change careers, find new jobs and deal more effectively with workplace challenges. Clients are often surprised to find that they don't have to "start at square one" when changing careers—job skills are highly transferable, once you know how to think about them in a new context. Many clients have pursued their dream of starting their own business. Career management clients have surprised themselves by completely altering their relationship with a problematic supervisor for the better!

Other Career-Related Work
In addition to my private practice, I have worked for two national corporate outplacement firms: Lee Hecht Harrison and Resource Careers. These are the organizations that help people who have experienced a layoff or downsizing find new jobs, and their programs are usually considered the gold-standard in job search techniques. When we start discussing the technical aspects of the job search—resume, interview preparation, networking—you'll be doing it like the pros.

I am a regular presenter on career issues, having designed and delivered numerous workshops , taught career theory at the graduate level, and served as a regular guest commentator on WMAL's career radio show "Your Career Life."

I Changed Careers, Too
As a career-changer myself, I've walked the same road you are thinking about taking. Before entering the counseling field, I worked for nearly a decade as a trade negotiator for the United States Government, first at the Department of Commerce and then at the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative. I spent time working with a career counselor, identifying the things that I liked to do, and finally decided on a career in the counseling field. I returned to graduate school to get a masters degree in community counseling, and opened my private practice in 1999.

Where I am Located
My private practice is located in Washington, D.C., and is close to the Farragut North and Farragut West metro stations. However, I also work by phone, and I have clients throughout the United States.

License, Certifications and Affiliations
I hold a number of relevant licenses and certifications:

	Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the District of Columbia;
	Master Career Counselor (MCC), a designation of the National Career Development Association (NCDA);
	National Certified Counselor (NCC), a designation of the National Board of Certified Counselors (NBCC); and
	Certified Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) user.

I belong to many of the relevant national and local associations involved in career counseling, including the American Counseling Association (ACA), the Association of Career Professionals International (ACPI), the National Employment Counselors Association (NECA), the National Career Development Association (NCDA) and the Washington Metropolitan Area Career-Life Planning Network (MAC-LPN).
